Note
CS Degree Day 95
Overview
I chose neuroscience partly because of my biology background and partly because I have always found consciousness scientifically and philosophically interesting.
What I did today?
9.01 Introduction to Neuroscience:
- Lecture 1: The neuron - structure, membrane potential, resting potential
- Lecture 2: Action potentials - the Hodgkin-Huxley model, all-or-nothing principle
- Lecture 3: Synaptic transmission - neurotransmitters, receptors, EPSP/IPSP
I studied neurons in undergraduate. Revisiting them through the computational lens of this degree is different. The Hodgkin-Huxley equations describe the action potential as a set of differential equations. The neuron is a dynamical system. This connection between biology and the mathematics I did three months is one of the most satisfying moments of the challenge.
